Just Doodling Around FAQs:

Your Guide to Adopting and Raising an Australian Labradoodle

1. What kind of health testing do you perform on your breeding dogs?

At Just Doodling Around, we conduct extensive genetic testing on all our breeding dogs. We screen for PRA-prcd, vWD, EIC, DM, and check hips, elbows, and patellas. Additionally, we partner with Pawprint Genetics to ensure that breeding pairs do not pass on any genetic disorders. While this testing greatly reduces health risks, we ensure full transparency regarding your puppy's health background.

2. What is your health guarantee?

We provide a two-year health guarantee that covers the genetic conditions we test for, including risks like hip dysplasia and patella issues. While our testing minimizes these risks, some health conditions influenced by environment, diet, or medications are not covered by the guarantee.

3. What should I know about cosmetic or minor health issues?

Minor cosmetic or health issues, such as underbites, overbites, umbilical hernias, or retained testicles, may occur in puppies. Many of these conditions resolve naturally as your puppy grows. We will inform you of any concerns during your puppy's initial vet visit.

4. How does the waitlist process work?

We operate on a waitlist system for our Australian Labradoodle puppies. To join, you'll need to submit an approved application and a deposit. Once the waitlist is full, we plan the corresponding breeding. Note that we have no litters planned for 2024, and our next litters will be based on our 2025 waitlist.

5. What should I do to prepare for my new puppy?

Before your Australian Labradoodle comes home, prepare your space by puppy-proofing, setting up a crate, and having essentials like puppy food and toys ready. We recommend researching puppy training and health risks associated with medications. Continued training is vital for developing a well-mannered family pet, and Baxter and Bella’s training program is a great resource.

6. Do you recommend ongoing training for my puppy?

Absolutely! Consistent training helps your puppy grow into a well-adjusted and happy family member. We recommend enrolling in Baxter and Bella’s online dog training program, which offers lifetime access and comprehensive tools to guide your puppy’s development.

7. What diet is best for Australian Labradoodles?

Australian Labradoodles benefit from a balanced diet rich in high-quality proteins and essential nutrients. We recommend feeding them premium dog food that meets their nutritional needs. A proper diet is crucial for their overall health and can help prevent issues down the line.

8. Are Australian Labradoodles hypoallergenic?

Yes, Australian Labradoodles have non-shedding, hypoallergenic coats, making them ideal for families with allergies. However, no dog is entirely hypoallergenic, so we recommend spending time with the breed before making a commitment.

9. How should I train my puppy for proper house manners?

Start by setting basic house rules, like staying off furniture and not chewing on non-toy items. Crate training is an effective way to create boundaries and provide your puppy with a safe space. Be patient and consistent, and always use positive reinforcement.

10. Do you offer older puppies for adoption?

Yes! Our "Added Value" puppies are older (around 4 months) and come with additional training, including potty and crate training, basic commands, and socialization. These puppies also come fully vaccinated and microchipped, offering a smooth transition for families wanting to skip the early "baby" puppy stage.

11. What type of coat do Australian Labradoodles have?

Australian Labradoodles have low-shedding, hypoallergenic coats that can range from curly to soft fleece. This makes them perfect for families looking for minimal shedding. Regular grooming is essential to keep their coats healthy and tangle-free.

12. How do I stay updated on new litters?
