Breeding Assessment
At Just Doodling Around, we prioritize the health and well-being of our Australian Labradoodle puppies by conducting extensive genetic testing on all breeding dogs. This includes screening for disorders such as PRA-prcd, vWD, EIC, DM, as well as hips, elbows, and patellas, following the extended Australian Labradoodle breed standards. Before breeding any pair, we use Pawprint Genetics for a thorough breeding calculation, assessing potential risks to ensure puppies are not affected by genetic conditions. While testing significantly reduces risks, some issues, like hip dysplasia, can still arise due to genetic and environmental factors. Our goal is to minimize these risks through responsible breeding, testing, and promoting healthy lifestyles for our dogs.
Understanding Risks
We believe in transparency about the potential genetic and environmental risks that may affect your Australian Labradoodle. While we perform extensive genetic testing to minimize health risks like hip dysplasia and patella issues, it's important to understand that environmental factors, such as nutrition, exercise, and medications, can also play a role. Additionally, minor cosmetic or health issues, like underbites, umbilical hernias, or retained testicles, may arise, but many of these conditions naturally resolve as your puppy matures. We ensure you are fully informed of any concerns during the initial vet visit, so you can be prepared to provide the best care for your new puppy.
Genetic Testing
We take pride in ensuring the health of our Australian Labradoodle puppies through comprehensive genetic testing. We screen all breeding dogs for disorders such as PRA-prcd (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), vWD (von Willebrand Disease), EIC (Exercise-Induced Collapse), DM (Degenerative Myelopathy), and conduct evaluations of their hips, elbows, and patellas. This thorough testing aligns with the Australian Labradoodle breed standard and helps us responsibly breed healthy puppies while minimizing the risk of passing on genetic conditions.
Prepare For Your Puppy
Preparing for your new Australian Labradoodle puppy involves setting a solid foundation for their health and happiness. Before bringing your puppy home, ensure you have high-quality food, a crate for training, and the time to invest in consistent care. Puppy-proof your home, establish house rules, and consider signing up for puppy training classes to promote good behavior. Be ready to offer plenty of love, patience, and attention, and remember that regular vet check-ups, proper nutrition, and exercise are key to maintaining your puppy’s long-term well-being. Pet insurance is also a great way to safeguard against any unexpected health concerns.
Health Guarantee
We offer a health guarantee for our Australian Labradoodle puppies, covering the genetic conditions we test for, such as PRA-prcd, vWD, EIC, and DM, as well as hips, elbows, and patellas. This guarantee significantly reduces the risk of these hereditary issues occurring. However, while our extensive testing helps to ensure healthy puppies, it's important to understand that some health concerns, influenced by genetics or environmental factors, cannot be entirely eliminated. Our health guarantee reflects our commitment to responsible breeding, but it also acknowledges that owning a pet comes with potential health risks.
