How to Choose Your Next Australian Labradoodle

Updated: 4 days ago

When you're looking at choosing a new pet, just like dating, it can be really overwhelming. There are lots of options and it can be hard to narrow them down. Starting with your non negotiables always helps. Make a list of what's important to you and write out a list of those things that aren't as important. This is a highly personal list - some people only want female doodles or specific colors & there is nothing wrong with that. We personally value your opinions and feel having the freedom to make your own decision about a puppy is important.

We also love the Badass Breeder curriculum, which suggests looking at the overall dog/family match, which is very important. When you are considering us for your next Australian labradoodle, please know that we are trying to help you find the best match as well, so we do like to gather information about you, your family & your lifestyle when talking.

There are also a few different trains of thought about making the best Australian labradoodle match, as some people like to have a yin/yang approach (basically that opposites attract and complement different parts of each other's personality), while some people are looking to match their energy/lifestyle. These two approaches are definitely ones to consider, as you may think you want a super mellow doodle, but if you have a really active lifestyle, you may wish to remember that your new Australian labradoodle puppy will need to be one you can bring along on your adventures.

Here are some other suggestions for choosing your new puppy:

  • narrow down your list of breeders by recommendations from friends/colleagues/relatives or people who have Australian labradoodles from them

  • If you don't have anyone you know who has an Australian labradoodle, do some research by following their instagram or facebook pages and looking over the people who share pics to that page of doodles from that breeder

  • call and email those breeders, then set up a time to talk to them & get to know them. Ask questions & try to learn more about their breeding/ puppy raising philosophies, as you'll want a match that's good for you.

  • see if you are allowed to visit. Remember if you are visiting, you are (hopefully) visiting someone else's home, so your expectations should be that you are looking for how the puppies are being raised. Are they in the house or a facility? You want to gather info to help you understand the puppies' life experiences so you can make the best match for you.

  • respect any boundaries the breeder sets - such as taking off your shoes before coming in, etc.

  • ask the breeder about the personalities, as some Australian labradoodles may not immediately show you their personalities if you are only there for a short period of time for a visit. The breeder is with them daily, so they should have a better perception of the puppies' personalities.

  • spend time with the puppies in their natural surroundings

  • after you meet with the puppies, give yourself a little time to think about all of them & to see if any one of them stood out to you or felt right. Trust your instinct & then make your decision.

Choosing a new Australian labradoodle puppy can be scary, but try to enjoy the process, while you make a decision. Australian labradoodle breeders NC; mini labradoodle puppies for sale NC
